It sounds like the Atlona splitter was the cause of the issue, because everyone here has agreed that there shouldn’t be any huge issues if HDCP protected content isn’t played, but that doesn’t match my experience.

I tried switching the order of the outputs of the split (1-projection, 2-capture, or vice versa). I tried removing the Extron scaler from the system, just using the split and ignoring scaling issues. I tried every combination of enabling/disabling HDCP in the Extron scaler. This was with zero HDCP media playing on the MacBook, only showing the desktop. Whenever the Atlona splitter was connected the best I could get was a blue HDCP protected screen on the Capture feed and a black screen on the Projector. My capture was an HD-SDI capture card so I had some Blackmagic HDMI-SDI converter boxes. The projector was HDMI in going thru the house Extron scaler/switch unit. I should go deeper into my signal flow, or at least what I tried.Įxtron 301HD scaler (the projector was 1920x1200 native, the capture was 1080p) I don't (wink) have a few of those in the office for when the need arises (though I wouldn't rely on them for permanent use).

Other less than totally legal ways are to find cheap chinese DA's that happen to strip HDCP. Here is an album I put together for a similar question before and is semi relevant: Just remember though if they try to use HDCP protected video (like Amazon Prime or something), it will still not work because the content is insisting on HDCP. This can be done in settings on various switches.

As soon as we did that, the Mac displayed fine, because it no longer had an HDCP device hooked up to it.īasically you need to find a way to keep the Mac from seeing an HDCP chain. However, you can turn HDCP off on those switches. This at first yielded a blocked signal because the Extron switch had HDCP turned on by default. VC applications (like capture devices) will not do HDCP. So for example, in VC rooms where I work we have an Extron presentation switch to switch content sources. By the same token, if the signal chain is not HDCP, the Mac will not output an HDCP signal (though if you play HDCP content, it will not play, obviously). So if the chain includes HDCP, the Mac will always output HDCP, regardless if the content is HDCP or not. The main thing to know about Mac's is they will follow whatever the device chain is.
